IPA/APAIT Risk Management Workshop
Sequence 1: General Risk Management Strategies
Since 1994 the APA Insurance Trust (“the Trust”) has been conducting Trust-sponsored Risk Management Workshops with the goal of increasing the knowledge of psychologists about basic risk management techniques. To accommodate the large number of psychologists who have already attended this workshop, while still providing training to those who haven’t had the opportunity, we have updated this workshop incorporating material from the Trust Risk Management book, Assessing and Managing Risk in Psychological Practice: An Individualized Approach. While old material has been modified and new material added, the workshop retains the basic thrust of its predecessor: giving attendees risk management advice and procedures that protect them from adverse disciplinary events that could damage or destroy their careers.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Workshop
Bloomington, Illinois
Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn developed Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and his program is currently being taught world wide in over 250 medical centers including Duke, Stanford and Scripps. Clinical research has shown that MBSR
techniques have a significant impact on the mind, emotional regulation and physical health. In this seminar, Elana Rosenbaum will share her experience utilizing MBSR as a cancer survivor, psychotherapist and senior mindfulness teacher at UMass Medical Center and Harvard’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Workshop presenter Elana Rosenbaum worked closely with Jon Kabat-Zinn and spent 22 years instructing at the center he founded.

This seminar will provide you with the essence of mindfulness-based stress reduction. At its heart are principles that embody authenticity, nonjudgmental attention, compassion and loving-kindness. This seminar will be experiential, focusing on the power of presence in translating
mindfulness to a variety of conditions, clients and settings. Take home strategies from a clinically proven approach that for more than 25 years has been enabling people to live well in the midst of the challenges and demands of everday life.
